Lee "Beanpot" Dodge

Born Leforest Earl Dodge Jr. on November 2, 1945 in Camden Maine.

I grew up with a lot of music around me as my mother (Virginia Hills Dodge) played the piano, guitar, and she idolized Dick Curless. At an early age I sang in church as a soloist. I started learning the guitar at age 12, right in the middle of the Rock-N-Roll era in 1957. I was all about Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee. Country came later on, on armed forces radio while serving a tour of duty in the US Army. I played in USO shows and was in a pick up Band on the base that I was stationed at. After the service I played some jams and parties around at friends' homes.

I met Marlene Frances Wentworth and married her about on the spot. We have two wonderful children Todd & Angela and have made our home in Rockport, Maine for the past 33 years. Now we are proud grandparents of three grandchildren Josh, Katherine, and Robbie.

I started writing songs when I was in High school, but only a few at the time and nothing were serious until much later in life. I kept up playing music by rehearsing with a local rock band, The Chessman, and a country band, The Country Wranglers, as my aunt (Retha Hills Dunton) was the keyboard player. At that time my wife and I became charter member of DECMA (Downeast Country Music Association). And at that time I played with Otto Proctor Jr. The Boogie Grass Boys at the Dory, a bar in the cellar of what was known as the Bayview, then later as the Chuck Wagon restaurant, now the Time Out Pub on Main Street in Rockland. Due to work I was with them for only a short time but have stayed close friends with Otto over the years. All through the years I have been writing songs, about 1400 by now, and just filing them away for the day I retired and could do them justice. Otto Proctor included two of my songs and a song I co-wrote with his father Otto Proctor Sr. on his first CD and used my song (Until I Get It Right) as the cover tune. She Is The Plaintiff And I'm The Other Side is the other song on the same CD.

I am involved with the Maine Country Folk Theater in West Dixsfield, Maine in the summer months with Larry Bisbee - an awesome writer and good friend. I also play at Ramblem Jack Rowe's Country Music Festival in Albion with The Bukers, a wonderful family band in the area. A great time and great people. I went to Nashville Tennessee last spring (2006) and played every open mic in downtown Nashville. My dream came true when I sang and played at the world famous Blue Bird Café. What a rush, so many big country writers and rock writers alike have played there as there are autographed pictures all over the walls, you can only be in awe! I also played the Hall of Fame Lounge and the Commodore Sports Bar and Grill In downtown Nashville. Then I went into the Hole-n-Wall recording studio and put down 10 tracks for my first CD. Cal Meece the owner, producer and engineer made my songs sound better than I ever expected or could have conceived. That man performs miracles with a simple song. I can't say enough. A song on my CD is being released on the Artists Carousel comp #5 with the song I Let Her Go. It's Boogie Woogie time! For information on buying my new CD, E-Mail me @ bpd_45@hotmail.com and I will get in contact with you. All the songs on the CD are original and were meant as a demos for the country star Mel McDaniel, who I had the good fortune of meeting when I was walking my dog Dodger and he was walking his dog at the same time . He told me his name and all I could say was "I've heard of you"! I told him I was a country writer and the rest is history. $15.00 (12.00 + 3.00 for S&H) the name of my first CD after 45 years is (A Winning Combination) Bye! Bye! Later!!! Lee (Beanpot) Dodge
